We recently got the XBox 360 Pro w/ a gold membership. We understand the XBox 360 Live Points but what are these " Gamer Points " that we keep racking up during game play? Are they for anything? How do I use them if so?|||Gamerpoints are just for bragging rights.
You can show your friends online if you did something cool in a game or defeated a particularly hard enemy.
They have no value whatsoever.
However, sometimes there are special sponsor events, where you can win something depending on your Gamerscore.
For example, some time ago, there was the "Old Spice Challenge". If you managed to aquire a certain amount of Gamerscore points during a set date, you could win a few Old Spice products.
But other than these (very rare) special occasions, Gamerscore points only show how dedicated you are when playing.
The higher your gamerscore points, the more games you played, and the more creative you are when playing.
Microsoft points are the currency for the Marketplace. With these points, you can buy downloads.|||Gamer points are actually more accurately called "Gamerscore" And they are unlock for achievements in games and do nothing but give you a tally of what you have accomplished and maybe some bragging right if you gotten a hard achievement but thats it, they do nothing. The odd achievement earns you a gamer pictures but that's rare. the last one i can remember that gave you one was gears of war 1. And then there is Microsoft points which are xbox marketplace currency.|||Gamerpoints/Score - shows how many achievements you have. Sort of a universal score.

They're basically just bragging rights. Scratch that, they ARE bragging rights :D. XBL (xbox live) points, a.k.a. microsoft points, are actually worth something. You buy them in order to buy stuff off the XBL market place. Instead of using raw money, you buy points and use THOSE as your money.
