How do i add xbox live to an existing gamer profile?

I got an xbox 360 elite awhile back and I didn't have an ethernet cable at the time. Therefore, i could not connect to xbox live. So i made a regular gamer profile and have accumulated a decent sum of gamer points. Then i decided to buy an ethernet cable so I could get xbox live. When i tried to sign up, it made me make a whole new profile. How do i add xbox live to an existing gamer profile?|||You should be able to sign in with your profile, and then choose Join Xbox Live from the Xbox Guide (the menu that shows up when you hit the center button). I think one of the options there will be to use an existing account to be made into an Xbox Live account.

Edit: Yes Danny, Microsoft is going to force you to loose all of your game saves as well as your achievements, by forcing you to make a new account. I don't think so.|||If you made the profile offline you can't play online with it, you can only play online with the gamertag that you made online. When you make a gamertag online it'll tell you if the gamertag is taken, then you have to fill out all that stuff etc. I'm afraid you'll have to start over with your online profile. Don't worry though, gamer points don't really mean anything, there are plenty of games in which you can rent and gain 1,000 gamer points within at least a day...Games such as Avatar the air bender, Fight night round 3, and many others.|||go on the account and press sign up for xbox live if the name is take change the name of ur profile till it allows u to sign up under that name hope this helps
