When you get xbox live, do you have to start a new profile or can you just upgrade your current gamer profile to silver or gold status? I know thats a really dumb question but i will be getting live and dont really want to start over in all my games.|||Its not a dumb question, but no. You do not need to restart your games, as long as you make sure that you are changing the XBL settings when you are logged in.|||it depends on whether or not your name is already taken in the xbox servers, go to xbox.com and see if it is or not, the same thing happend to me when i went to live my name had already been registered so i had to change my gamertag. it sucked cus i had to do all of my achievements all over again

GT: stonr420|||No sir you can just go to one of your profiles that are silver or not even signed up on Live yet,and change it to gold.If its not silver or gold yet you should have the option to get Xbox Live for that account when your connected to the internet by your ethernet cable.
If you are silver at the moment then you need a redeem code which comes a Gold Subscription card which varies in Time durations,the smallest is a months worth of live costing $8.00 about.Also if you buy a game that can get multiplayer and online play theres a chance you'll get a card with a code for 48 hours of xbox live gold with it in the box.
